Third-Year Review

The Office of Faculty Affairs offers a review for all assistant professors and assistant research scientists in his or her current third-year faculty track. This review is separate and in addition to the faculty member's annual department review.

The third-year review is mandatory for Instructional and Research track faculty and optional, but strongly encouraged for Clinical track faculty. Reviews are conducted by the assistant dean for each respective track.

The third-year review provides an opportunity to discuss any concerns that a faculty member may have in his or her academic life and help to identify strengths or potential weaknesses. Information will also be provided about the Medical School promotion process.

The Office of the Provost requests that any faculty track changes occur early in a faculty member's career; around the third year. This review is the appropriate time to evaluate whether a faculty member needs to change tracks.

Faculty within his or her third year can expect to be contacted via email, initially, in September to initiate the process of coordinating a third-year review meeting with his or her respective assistant dean.

Reviews may occur at the beginning or the end of a faculty member's third year, depending upon the U-M faculty start date.
