Some faculty members are appointed as Clinical Lecturers by the Medical School before moving into the Instructional or Clinical Track. If a person is appointed as Clinical Lecturer as the result of a normal national search that includes posting, advertising, and efforts to secure a diverse applicant pool, an Affirmative Action document is filed at the time of the initial appointment.
Otherwise, the Clinical Lecturer must compete in a national search process in order to be recommended for appointment at a higher rank.
Appointments of Clinical Lecturers are the prerogative of the department chair or unit head, within constraints of University appointment procedures, and must be approved by the Office of Faculty Affairs.
The appointments are for 1 year and are renewable, usually for up to 4 years.
