This lecture reviews the types of network worth considering and the approaches to effective networking, both face to face and online, each time offering concrete, readily applicable tips.

Emotional Intelligence for Physicians

Join us for this highly interactive 2.5-hour workshop! We will explore the 4 components of emotional intelligence EQ and practice specific strategies to increase them. Take away new strategies and techniques to increase your self-awareness, self-management, and relationships.

Participants will be asked to complete an online EQ assessment prior to the workshop (15-20 min. needed to complete). 

This is an interactive workshop that will include small group breakouts.

Untangling Academic Scholarship: Writing, Reviewing, and Responding

This short workshop will give an overview of the typical scholarly journal structure and reviewing process. Best practices for becoming involved as a reviewer and accomplishing the reviews will be given. Journal rankings and choosing an appropriate journal are also topics. The components of a typical scholarly paper are discussed in turn and writing papers that facilitate acceptance will be examined. Handling reviews effectively will also be covered including the steps of revision, responding to reviewers, and publicizing your accepted paper.

Your Research Presence Online: Author Identifiers and Scholarly Profiles

This session introduces author identifiers and online scholarly profiles. We’ll dig into a few of the specific author identifiers that are available including ORCID and Scopus Author IDs, and spend some time looking at the different platforms that scholars use including Google Scholar and Michigan Experts. We’ll cover general best practices and reasons to maintain your online profiles, and also have time to create, claim, or review your profiles.

Your Research Presence Online: Engaging on Social Media

Beyond just having an online presence via profiles, researchers can engage online in different ways. In this session, we’ll discuss different ways that researchers can share about their work or areas of expertise online, and cover best practices for engaging on social media. Attendees will have some time to consider what platforms they want to engage with and identify some ways to do so.

Data, Data, Everywhere! Managing & Organizing Data

This workshop is open to faculty and staff.

Doing scientific research usually means generating lots of digital data and files. In this workshop we will go over recommended practices for how to organize and manage your files, how to create a file naming convention, and practical strategies you can apply right away to help get better organized.
